iPhone Finally Returned!!

Hello – Today I bring news… Good news, Amazing news! (Can you tell I’m happy?)

After checking my mailbox yesterday I found a package containing a lovely well kept still working iPhone…! Yes, it has been returned back to me after a long 2 week period full of extortion, blackmail, and finally a change of heart!

So as you all know, the iPhone became mis-places during a rock gig I was at in San Fran a couple of weeks ago. After texting my own phone to try and get it returned for 20 bucks and a few drinks, the reply I got was a quick sharp “nah”. After a lack of reply thereafter I tried upping my offer until I finally got a reply at no shorter than 300…! Now, I was never going to pay 300 for the phone.. Lets get that clear… But I felt it was important to try and keep communication with the guy and see where it leads right?

Even though I was being essentially charged $300 for my own phone back however, the guy explained he was returning it:
(415) xxx-xxxx to me

“cos ur a nice guy nd this phone means lot to you”

He then also explained he was doing nothing illegal:
(415) xxx-xxxx to me
21 Apr (13 days ago)
“I’m not stealing u offered that amount so I took it. Put yourself in my shoes! 300 hundred bucks! Cmon”

Although let’s be clear for a minute again – This guy wouldn’t send the phone back for anything less… Which yes, I’m afraid, IS extortion and IS illegal.

So at this point, I’m losing all hope. I decide to carry on with the 300 charade to achieve 2 things:
1) Maybe I can get some personal information out of him and get the police involved
2) Maybe I can talk him round and he’ll have a change of heart – Afterall, I do still believe in humanity somewhat….

“Dude, u weren’t texting bck till I said 300 so yeh. That’s blackmail.
Look if you’re a nice guy ill hope you’ll be that guy and return it.
If I said no to 300 I u wouldn’t be returning it. That true?”

What came early the day next was a big big surprise:

(415) xxxxx to me

I’m not goin to charge u 300 ok. Hey I’m sorry for takin your phone. It’s all good let me find out how much does it cost to mail it and I’ll let u know

So from there, we arranged an exchange of payment for posting ($20, which I posted to him), and a few days later incredible, my iPhone has been safely returned.

Now it would be easy for me to show hatred and anger towards this other guy, yet I don’t feel that way at all. I am EXTREMELY thankful to him. He found a high value technological device, obviously was looking forward to the money he could receive from it, yet realised that in life, it was not the way to achieve things. His morals took over, and the fact he changed his mind and returned the device for free makes me feel pretty happy! I almost feel like it’s +1 for human nature, and -1 to bad people…!

To summarise, thank you Mr Stranger, for realising the right thing to do and returning the phone…! I did have some software on the device recording things like music listened to, and the only bit of anger I have left is that you have polluted my last.fm profile by listening to Keisha…. I can forgive you for that one though πŸ˜‰

Faith in human life is restored! Now let’s party!

See you all back in England next week…!!!!
